Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of taking environmental samples and measurements including:

using computers/data management devices and programmes

reading and interpreting databases and spreadsheets

solving problems associated with collecting environmental sampling and measurements

works effectively with others to undertake and complete taking environmental samples and measurements that meet all of the required outcomes, including:

liaising with others to establish permits and coordinate access to sampling area

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written records and reporting requirements

demonstrates completion of taking environmental samples and measurements that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

interpreting the sample plan to identify the type of sample requested and the location, quantity and frequency of sampling

collecting, storing and transporting environmental samples and ensuring:

minimising environmental impacts

maintaining the integrity of samples

measuring, recording and storing accurate readings and data

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of take environmental samples and measurements through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

worksite safety systems information

worksite communication, reporting and recording procedures

sampling

measurement taking

waste management, clean up and spillage

handling, transport and storage of dangerous goods

health, safety and environment requirements

methods for retaining sample/measurement integrity

common readings and measures expected

types of communication systems and equipment

identifying and using key terminology and concepts, such as: sample, contamination, traceability, integrity, chain of custody

purpose for which the samples/measurements are being collected

the function of key sampling/measurement equipment/materials and principles of operation

hazards and risks associated with sampling/measurement
